Fleet Smith

Fleet Smith is an investor, entrepreneur, and former investment advisor with a long career in finance, private equity, and real estate development. He graduated from Hampden–Sydney College with a Bachelor of Science in Economics before beginning his career in Norfolk, Virginia in a family business focused on financial services.

In 1990, Smith became a founding partner of Wilbanks, Smith & Thomas Asset Management (WST), an investment advisory firm that grew to become one of the fastest-growing registered investment advisors in Virginia. The firm managed equity and fixed-income portfolios for high-net-worth individuals, trusts, and corporate clients. In 2005, following a partial sale of the company, Smith stepped away from day-to-day operations to pursue private equity investments, entrepreneurial ventures, and business acquisitions.

During this period, he acquired Heritage Woodworks and founded American Capital Advisory LLC. He was also engaged to manage a family office for Argent Equity Partners, a Norfolk-based company with more than 100 years of history. Beginning in 2008, much of his focus shifted toward real estate development and property management.

American Capital Advisory continued to expand over the following years, and Smith eventually relocated the company’s operations to Ketchum, Idaho, where Matt McNeal and Ian Jameson assumed leadership of day-to-day management. Over the past eighteen years the firm has grown into a respected and successful organization. Smith remains involved in an advisory capacity, providing strategic guidance.

Outside of his professional pursuits, Smith enjoys spending time with his family and grandchildren, playing golf, driving and collecting cars, and playing the guitar.
